I visited during the fall, when the city is covered in warm colors and the monuments feel even more impressive. Walking past neoclassical buildings and seeing places like the Capitol, the White House, and the Supreme Court in person really puts the city’s significance into perspective.

From wandering along the National Mall to standing beneath the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, there’s no shortage of moments that feel meaningful. The Smithsonian museums are a must, whether you’re into history, art, or science and if you’re lucky enough to visit during cherry blossom season, a walk around the Tidal Basin is something you won’t forget.

I divided this itinerary in groups according to their distances to each other for your convenience. You may want to customize it according to your preference. For me this was the easiest way to visit all of them especially when you’re only here for a quick visit.
